Backpack Tubulum Construction

Step Two

The Frame - Part B

You should also make the frame in 2 parts. This ended up being wider than any doorway in my house so, to get it in and out, you need to make this thing able to come apart. This is all 1" PVC pipe.

***This is a part I did wrong!***

Each place you see a black line is a tube. When I built this part I laid all 8 tubes with fittings on them and put a tape measure to it. I then divided that number by 4 and came up with the 4 cross members you see here. I would still make this part with 4 cross members like you see here but it will not need to be as wide since it will only have 6 notes. The whole point of these cross members are to serve as points you can mount the tubes to. There are 9 1" T joints here.

I would buy...

  • 30' of 1" PVC pipe
  • 9 T joints for 1" pipe

Here is my plan view again. Each of the darker points is a T joint.

When looking at the picture above, the top portion will need to match up to the length of the top portion of this picture….

Notes on building Frame Part B

  • Lay out 6 tubes with fittings on them and measure.
  • Find each distance for 4 cross-members
  • Make sure to glue all points but the 2 mentioned in the picture (this part will need to move later.
  • Build the part with the extra T fitting to the width that the tubes will take up. The side without the extra T fitting needs to extend out 6 in or so outside your tubes. This is a little much but you can cut it later.
