Backpack Tubulum Construction

Step 3

Combining Frame Part A and B

Now you have built two of the most important parts of the backpack frame, it is time to combine them. The parts you will make here will not be glued since they need to be able to be taken apart.

Arrange both parts as shown above. First, connect the two T joints that are facing each other. Go to your frame part A. You have this middle T joint pointing up and a reducer in it. Now you need to cut a 1" piece of pipe that will allow you to press both pieces together flush. Do this by measuring the depth of the reducer fitting and the depth of the 1" T fitting. Add those two numbers together and cut out a piece this length. Glue it into part A and part A only. It will look like this:

Now that you have done this it is now time to create the other fittings.

Look at the bottom of this picture. The two lengths you made extending the length of the tubes now will serve as the length you need to extend out the top of part A.

The two new pictures you see are the fittings. They should be made and glued like this. They just will NOT be glued to anything else.

Ok, put them all together and it will be something like this:

After you stop laughing at my picture, hopefully you will get an idea of how this part should be.

Now I know you say "Hey this doesn’t look right," but it is. You will now add the diagonal support members. The reason you did not glue anything is so you can now bend the top over.
