Complex Tour Tubulum Construction
by Kevin
Step One
Gathering Materials
Gather the following (read the directions to estimate how much PVC and wood to buy):
- 4" dia. Schedule 20 PVC sewer drain pipe
- 100' roll of 4" dia. ADS flexible tubing (non-preforated; will run you about 20-some dollars)
- 2" x 2" wooden beams
- 1" x 4" wooden beams
- 2" x 4" wooden beams
- PVC shower pan liner
- white duct tape
- 1/8" dia. rivets
- rivet gun
- wood screws
- 3" dia. wheels with brakes
- jigsaw (optional)
- 1/4" thick masonite
- drill w/ bit for drilling 4-1/4" holes
Step Two
Building the frame
- Using the 1" x 4" wood, cut four 12" pieces.
- Using the 2" x 2" wood, cut four 48-3/8" pieces, two 25-1/2" pieces, and four 21-1/2" pieces.
- Using the 2" x 4" wood, cut two 30" pieces.
- NOTE: be sure to cut a bit past these measurements, and then cut/sand down if need be to ensure proper fits

 |
- Cut a 1/4" thick and 1" deep groove all along one side of each of the 48-3/8" long 2" x 2" wood pieces (legs of the tubulum)
- Do the same for each of the 25-1/2" long 2" x 2" wood pieces (top crosspieces for frame)
- Do the same again for two of the 21-1/2" long 2" x 2"
- Cut approximately a 23-1/2" x 23-1/2" section of masonite
|
- Using either the 4-1/4" drill bit, or a jig saw, cut 12 holes in each masonite section to create holes for the pipes to pass through.
- Each hole is an inch apart with the top row of circles starting 4" from the top. I measured from the center outward, traced, and cut.
